Custom Jewelry Chest
"One of a Kind"
Signed and Dated

Each Jewelry Chest is custom built, one at a time by me. I spend a lot of time choosing just the right woods to complement each other. Most are Exotic woods and none are on any endangered list. I use only solid stock, there is no veneer in any of these boxes, unless specified. All of the woods are their natural color, I use no dyes or stains. Every thing I make gets a "Hand Rubbed Oil Finish". Usually five to eight coats. This is a blend of five oils that provides the best finish possible. The finish was developed for the marine environment. The base is polyurethane.

This custom “One of a Kind” Jewelry Chest is made from Cocobolo. The top has been “Book-matched. Cocobolo is in the “Rosewood” family of which there are over two hundred species. Cocobolo is one of the most expensive woods in the world and getting harder to find, not because it’s on any endangered list, but because most of the premium logs are going to veneer mills to be processed into veneer (plywood) and the solid stock is getting harder to find. The joiner work is “Double box joints” which is very strong and very attractive. A unique "One-of-a-Kind" Jewelry Chest signed and dated. Each Jewelry Chest gets 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible. There is plenty of room in this Jewelry Chest. Full top tray and below this tray, there are two full trays and storage below them. Removable dividers make arranging compartment easy to hold small to large pieces of jewelry. Bottom of Chest and all trays are lined with real velvet. All the wood used to make the trays and dividers are natural in color and consist of Pau Amarillo, Paduak. Holly, Cocobolo, Walnut and Mahogany.

 Size is approx. 9 x 11.25 x 5.5 inches. Item # ted_740  Cost $585.00 (Free Shipping)

This custom “One of a Kind” Jewelry Chest is made from Bloodwood (Satine) (Brosimum Paraense) native of Brazil is a very heavy, close-grained, strong wood.  This wood is naturally red in color and twice the density of Paduak. The wood is very durable and works quite well for cabinetry, furniture and boxes. This wood is sometimes called “Cardinal Wood”. The corners have been splined, which make a very strong joint as well as being very attractive. This wood has a sweet smell when machining, and is a great wood to “turn” on the lathe. The top is “book-matched” with Ebony inlay in center. The top is banded with MACASSAR EBONY (Diospyros celebica), which is one of a group of ebonies from the East Indies, ranging from Sri Lanka to Indonesia. This close- grained, heavy hardwood machines and turns well, but tends to dull tools and is difficult to glue. Used for turned and carved items, inlays, and contemporary furniture. Ebony is so expensive; they sell it by the pound. Holly inlays in front and back edges of chest. The inlays in the ends are American Holly. This Chest was build so the grain "wraps" around the Chest and matches on all four corners, matching three is easy, but matching four takes some woodworking skill. The top lift-out tray has one small tray inside it. Below this tray, there are two full trays and storage below them. Removable dividers make arranging compartment easy to hold small to large pieces of jewelry. Bottom of Chest and all trays are lined with real suede.

 Size is approx. 8 x 12 x 5 inches. Item # ted_681   Cost $549.00 (Free Shipping)

This custom “One of a Kind” Jewelry Chest is made from Paduak (Pterocarpus soyauxii) also called Vermillion; this decorative hardwood originates in Africa and the Andaman Islands, with one major variety native to Burma. This wood is naturally red to orange in color with dark streaks running thru it. Works well, is used for furniture, flooring and architectural accents and “one of a kind” boxes of all kinds. Who says there are no red trees! The stripe in the top of the Chest is sap wood and really makes the Paduak stand out, good contrast. Canary is a wonderful wood to work with and finishes very well. This wood is getting harder and harder to find, most lumber is made into veneer.
