Custom Jewelry Chest
"One of a Kind"
Signed and Dated

Each Jewelry Chest is custom built, one at a time by me. I spend a lot of time choosing just the right woods to complement each other. Most are Exotic woods and none are on any endangered list. I use only solid stock, there is no veneer in any of these boxes, unless specified. All of the woods are their natural color, I use no dyes or stains. Every thing I make gets a "Hand Rubbed Oil Finish". Usually five to eight coats. This is a blend of five oils that provides the best finish possible. The finish was developed for the marine environment. The base is polyurethane.

This custom “One of a Kind” Jewelry Chest is made from Paduak (Pterocarpus soyauxii) also called Vermillion; this decorative hardwood originates in Africa and the Andaman Islands, with one major variety native to Burma. This wood is naturally red to orange in color with dark streaks running thru it. Works well, is used for furniture, flooring and architectural accents and “one of a kind” boxes of all kinds. Who says there are no red trees! The center piece in the top of the Chest is Canary flanked with Quilted Maple and then a piece of Cocobolo and front and back edges are Lacewood. The corners are inlaid with Ebony and Holly. A unique "One-of-a-Kind" Jewelry Chest signed and dated. Each Jewelry Chest gets 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible. There is plenty of room in this Jewelry Chest. Full top tray with small tray inside and below this tray, there are two full trays and storage below them. Removable dividers make arranging compartment easy to hold small to large pieces of jewelry. Bottom of Chest and all trays are lined with real velvet. All the wood used to make the trays and dividers are natural in color and consist of Pau Amarillo, Paduak. Holly, Cocobolo, Walnut and Mahogany.

Size is approx. 9 x 12 x 7 inches.    Item # ted_774   Cost $625.00 (free shipping)

This custom “One of a Kind” Jewelry Chest is made from Bloodwood (Satine) (Brosimum Paraense) native of Brazil is a very heavy, close-grained, strong wood.  This wood is naturally red in color and twice the density of Paduak. The wood is very durable and works quite well for cabinetry, furniture and boxes. This wood is sometimes called “Cardinal Wood”. The corners have been splined, which make a very strong joint as well as being very attractive. This wood has a sweet smell when machining, and is a great wood to “turn” on the lathe. The top is “book-matched” with Ebony inlay in center. The top is banded with MACASSAR EBONY (Diospyros celebica), which is one of a group of ebonies from the East Indies, ranging from Sri Lanka to Indonesia. This close- grained, heavy hardwood machines and turns well, but tends to dull tools and is difficult to glue. Used for turned and carved items, inlays, and contemporary furniture. Ebony is so expensive; they sell it by the pound. Holly inlays in front and back edges of chest. The inlays in the ends are American Holly. This Chest was build so the grain "wraps" around the Chest and matches on all four corners, matching three is easy, but matching four takes some woodworking skill. The top lift-out tray has one small tray inside it. Below this tray, there are two full trays and storage below them. Removable dividers make arranging compartment easy to hold small to large pieces of jewelry. Bottom of Chest and all trays are lined with real suede.

 Size is approx. 8 x 12 x 5 inches. Item # ted_681   Cost $549.00 (Free Shipping)

Who says there are no red trees! The top is made from Quilted Maple and banded with Ebony and Holly. This Quilted Maple has the most pronounced “Rays” that I have seen in a long time. Quilted Maple is getting very hard to find due to the fact that most logs go to the veneer mill and finding quality Quilted Maple lumber is getting harder and harder to find and is now one of the most expensive domestic woods there is followed by Birdseye maple and then tiger and fiddleback. The corners are inlaid with Ebony and Holly.
