This custom built “one of a kind” Keepsake Box made from Honduras Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla). Often named after the country it came from (i.e. Brazilian Mahogany, Peruvian Mahogany, etc.).Mahogany is scattered areas throughout central and South America including some Caribbean islands. The species is secure in El Salvador and Honduras, but it has become endangered or extinct in some regions of South America. Honduras mahogany trees once had a distribution covering most of South America. Supply of the wood is still plentiful thanks in part to plantation harvesting, where trees reaching heights of 150' with trunk diameters as large as 6'. The wood is strong and dense and has been used to make some of the finest furniture in the world. Mahogany stands for quality. The popular Chris Craft wooden boats were built from mahogany until the early 1960 when it was replaced by fiberglass. The top is made from Yew tree is famous for its “Bow” making qualities. In the days of King Author, the Yew tree was used for making “Long Bows” and only the king could harvest this wood. The Yew tree has a very long taproot and this was thought to cleanse the ground, so they planted Yew trees around cemeteries to cleanse the ground and today that is why there are so many Yew trees around the old cemeteries in England. Still today modern “Bow makers” prize the Yew wood for Bows. Yew wood sands very smooth and takes the best finish of any of the woods I work with. A unique "One-of-a-Kind Keepsake Box" signed and dated. Each Keepsake Box gets 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible.

Size is approx. 5 x 8 x 3.5 inches.    Item # ted_787  Cost $155.00 (free shipping)

This custom “One of a Kind” Keepsake box is made from Goncalo Alves (Astronium, spp) also know as Tigerwood is boldly striped specie which has an orangish/reddish brown background with wide dark brownish black striping. Found in Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Guatemala, Mexico Tigerwood, as the name suggests, is specie which exhibits a wide range of color/striping. The striping can vary from fine lines to bold, brush strokes. The background color can range from light tans to darker orange browns. This box was build from the same board so the grain "wraps" around the Chest and matches on three corners. Tigerwood exhibits a large degree of color change with a pronounced darkening of the background under the stripes from an orangey tan to a deep reddish brown color, which then in turn makes the striping less contrasting and more subtle. This one of the hardest woods you will find. Tigerwood is 170% as hard as red oak (2160 on the Janka scale vs. 1260 for red oak). The top is made from the Yew tree, which is famous for its “Bow” making qualities. Yew wood is “tight-grained” and sands to a very smooth surface and takes the best finish of any of the woods I work with.  A unique "One-of-a-Kind" Keepsake box signed and dated. Each box gets 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible.

This custom made “One of a Kind” Keepsake box is made from Bocote, (Cordia elaeagnoides) also called Mexican or Mayan Rosewood, this attractive wood is a product of Central and northern South America. This wood is very hard and dense with a distinctive striped-to-flowered grain. This wood has streaks of Gold, Yellow and Black running thru it. Bocote is a wonderful wood to work with, has a fantastic grain pattern, and finishes very well. In recent years, Bocote has become one of the most expensive woods that I work with. Nothing matches its “grain Pattern” for beauty. Available lumber is short and generally narrow. The “Diamond” inlay is Pau Amerillo.

Size is approx. 5 x 10 x 3 inches.     Item #  ted_546     Cost  $189.00  (Free Shipping!)

This custom “One of a Kind” Keepsake box is made from Zebrawood, (Zebrano - Microberlinia brazzavillensis) this coarse, heavy African hardwood is named for its zebra-stripe appearance when quarter- sawn. Zebrawood is very attractive, but difficult to work because of alternating hard and soft grain. Used for furniture, veneer, game boards, small boxes and decorative items. Zebrano has the most fantastic grain pattern of any wood that I work with. Most people know and will identify this wood very quickly. This Keepsake box was build from the same board so the grain "wraps" around the Chest and matches on three corners. It’s easy to see why they call it “Zebra wood” once you see it. The top is made from American Ashe with the center strips being the “heartwood” of the tree. American Ashe was a favorite of the American Indians to make their bows from. Ashe is the number one choice to make barrels out of also. A unique "One-of-a-Kind" Keepsake box signed and dated. This Keepsake box has 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give it the best finish possible.

This custom “One of a Kind” Keepsake box is made from Paduak (Pterocarpus soyauxii) also called Vermillion; this decorative hardwood originates in Africa and the Andaman Islands, with one major variety native to Burma. This wood is naturally red to orange in color and some times there will be dark streaks running thru it. Works well, is used for furniture, flooring and architectural accents and “one of a kind” boxes of all kinds. Who says there are no red trees! The top is made from Canary wood, (Centrolobium spp, family: Leguminosae) from Panama to southern Brazil. Yellow to orange in color, typically variegated with light to dark red streaking. It has a medium to high luster. It can be somewhat variable in density; it is mostly a hard, heavy and strong wood. Works very easily with both hand and power tools and finishes very smoothly. This is an exceptional exotic wood from Africa. Uses: Boat building, turnery, decorative veneers, cooperage, furniture, cabinetry, and custom treasure boxes of all kinds. Canary wood is my favorite wood to work with, it’s easy to machine with all tools, finishing very smoothly but attention must be paid to sanding to get the smooth finish that shows up the beauty of this wood. The strip in the center is Paduak with sapwood on each side. A unique "One-of-a-Kind" Keepsake box signed and dated. Each Keepsake box gets 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible.
