Keepsake Boxes This custom “One of a Kind” Keepsake box is made from Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia Nigra) comes from Brazil. At present, the export and import of wood is banned per CITES II treaty. To export one requires permission from the Department of Fisheries. The wood weighs 48 to 52 lbs./cb.ft, but has more color variation than East Indian Rosewood. It is known for its interlaced grain pattern. It is easily identified by its smell, which is very unique and sweet. This wood has a wonderful tone wood and is at present extremely high priced. It dries very well and is used for guitar fingerboards, backs and sides, laminate tops; bridge blanks, turning squares and fine furniture. A unique "One-of-a-Kind" keepsake box signed and dated. Each keepsake box gets 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible.

This custom made “One of a Kind” Keepsake box is
made from Goncalo alves
(Astronium fraxinifolium).
This wonderful wood from Trinidad and Brazil ranges in color from light to
reddish brown to deep mahogany red-brown with a striking figure created by
beautiful, bold, brown to nearly black irregular markings or striping. The
texture is fine to medium and uniform, with a fine grain, varying from straight
to interlocked and wavy. The “Diamond” inlay is Black Palm.
The bottom is velvet lined.
This custom “One of a Kind” Keepsake box is made from three types of Exotic woods; number one (ends) is Jatoba (Hymenaea Courbaril): This heavy wood from South America weighs approximately 60-65 lbs./cb.ft. It is also called Courbaril and Brazilian Cherry in U.S.A. It is very good for turning, but it is known to dull the tools. Number two (face & back) is EAST INDIAN ROSEWOOD (Dalbergia latifolia) is in the “Rosewood” family, of which there are over 200 species and East Indian Rosewood being one of the most expensive. This heavy and strong, durable hardwood is grown from India and Sri Lanka to Indonesia. Variable coloration and good stability make this a good choice for accent furniture and fixtures, turnery, musical instruments (Martin Guitar being a major user) and “one of a kind” boxes of all kinds. The top is made from “Quilted” Bubinga, (Guibourtia demeusii) this strong, heavy West African hardwood is red in color with dark streak running throughout it and often found in striped to mottled figure. Works well with sharp tools takes a great finish. Often available in wide lumber, making Bubinga popular for furniture, paneling or cabinetry. The inlay in top is Canarywood. This custom made “One of a Kind” Keepsake box is made from Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) which is in the “Rosewood” family, of which there are over 200 species and Cocobolo being one of the most expensive. A heavy, durable hardwood from Nicaragua and Costa Rica, Coco Bolo is known for wide color variation and great stability. A wood that is very hard to work with and difficult to glue. Cocobolo seems to be most peoples favorite and is sought after by serious “box collectors”. The top has been “Book Matched”. The inside of this box is lined with Mahogany. The bottom is velvet lined.
