This custom “One of a Kind” Men’s Valet is made from “Black Palm” and is one of the most unusual woods that I have ever worked with. The front and back edges are banded with MACASSAR EBONY (Diospyros celebica), which is one of a group of ebonies from the East Indies, ranging from Sri Lanka to Indonesia. This close- grained, heavy hardwood machines and turns well, but tends to dull tools and is difficult to glue. Used for turned and carved items, inlays, and contemporary furniture. Ebony is so expensive; they sell it by the pound. Palm is not noted for its lumber and is seldom used to make anything and once you work with it you will know why. The black fibers are as hard as nails and the tan wood is soft which make for a woodworking nightmare. The wood cannot be planned but has to be sanded to control “tear-out”. The end results are well worth the effort. This Valet is one of two that I have made and will be the last. You will never see another piece of wood that is any more beautiful or unusual than this. A unique "One-of-a-Kind Valet" signed and dated. All my boxes get 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible. This Valet will become a family heirloom to be passed on from generation to generation hopefully. There is a full lift out tray with plenty of room for coins, keys, wallet and cell phone. Bottom of Valet and tray are lined with real Velvet.

This custom “One of a Kind” Men’s Valet is made from Canary wood (Centrolobium spp). This wood comes from Brazil. This wood has streaks of Red, Yellow and Black running thru it. Canary is a wonderful wood to work with and finishes very well. This wood is getting harder and harder to find, most lumber is made into veneer. This Chest was build so the grain "wraps" around the Chest and matches on all four corners, matching three is easy, but matching four takes some woodworking skill. This is a beautiful wood and takes an excellent finish. This custom made “One of a Kind” Men’s Valet is made from Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) is in the “Rosewood” family, of which there are over 200 species and Cocobolo being one of the most expensive. Seem Cocobolo is recognized more often than most exotic woods. This wood is most “asked for” from box collectors. Colors range from almost black to bright reds and yellows to an orange tint, truly a rainbow of colors. A heavy, durable hardwood from Nicaragua and Costa Rica, Cocobolo is known for wide color variation and great stability. Works well, but its dust is a serious irritant to some people. Cocobolo is difficult to glue. Well know to violin “Bow” makers. This custom made “One of a Kind” Men’s Valet is made from Canary wood, (Centrolobium spp, family: Leguminosae) from Panama to southern Brazil. Yellow to orange in color, typically variegated with light to dark red streaking. It has a medium to high luster. It can be some what variable in density; it is mostly a hard, heavy and strong wood. Works very easily with both hand and power tools and finishes very smoothly. This is an exceptional exotic wood from Africa. Uses: Boat building, turnery, decorative veneers, cooperage, furniture, cabinetry. The inlays are American Black Walnut and Maple. Canary wood is my favorite wood to work with, it’s easy to machine with all tools, finishing very smoothly but attention must be paid to sanding to get the smooth finish that shows up the beauty of this wood.
