Specialty Boxes

Each Box is custom built, one at a time by me. I spend a lot of time choosing just the right woods to complement each other. Most are Exotic woods and none are on any endangered list. I use only solid stock, there is no veneer in any of these boxes, unless specified. All of the woods are their natural color, I use no dyes or stains. Every thing I make gets a "Hand Rubbed Oil Finish". Usually five to eight coats. This is a blend of five oils that provides the best finish possible. The finish was developed for the marine environment. The base is polyurethane.

This custom made "One of a kind" watch display chest is made from American Cherry. A lot of Antique Furniture is made from Cherry, which has long been the favorite of furniture makers for building high-end furniture. There is something about Cherry that speaks quality and most people know and love this wood. The top is made from Paduak (Pterocarpus soyauxii) also called Vermillion; this decorative hardwood originates in Africa and the Andaman Islands, with one major variety native to Burma. This wood is naturally red to orange in color and some times there will be dark streaks running thru it. Works well, is used for furniture, flooring and architectural accents and “one of a kind” boxes of all kinds. Who says there are no red trees! "Father Time" is laser engraved into the glass top.  This display case, as well as all my boxes get 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible. There is a full lift-out tray with storage below, with adjustable dividers. There is storage room for 10 or more watches.

This custom made "One of a kind" watch display chest is made from Wenge (Millettia Laurentii ), a heavy wood weighing approximately 5 lbs./bdft. It comes from West and Central Africa. Wenge is used for expensive flooring, electric bass guitar fingerboards, bass guitar laminated tops. The wood is dark brown to black in color with sapwood being yellow in color. It’s Hard to find and somewhat expensive. The top is made from Bocote, (Cordia elaeagnoides) also called Mexican or Mayan Rosewood, this attractive wood is a product of Central and northern South America. This wood is very hard and dense with a distinctive striped-to-flowered grain. This wood has streaks of Gold, Yellow and Black running thru it. Bocote is a wonderful wood to work with and has a fantastic grain pattern and finishes very well. In recent years, Bocote has become one of the most expensive woods that I work with. Nothing matches its “grain Pattern” for beauty. Available lumber is short and generally narrow. "Father Time" is laser engraved into the glass top. This display case, as well as all my boxes get 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible. There is a full lift-out tray with storage below, with adjustable dividers. There is storage room for 10 or more watches.

This custom made "One of a kind" watch display chest is made American Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) is among the most desirable hardwoods. Walnut has long been the favorite of furniture makers for building high-end furniture. There is something about Walnut that speaks quality and most people know and love this wood. This medium weight, attractive wood is sawn into a variety of figures, including crotch, burl and fiddle back. Works carves and turns extremely well. Prized for furniture, clock cases, gunstocks, and musical instruments and “one of a kind” boxes of all kinds. Chechen, metopium brownei, (Mexico) which is a very hard and dense wood. This wood is dark brown with waves of red-brown color and with figure similar to walnut, but with the texture and shine of rosewood. This wood take a great finish. "Father Time" is laser engraved into the glass top.  This display case, as well as all my boxes get 6 to 8 coats of polyurethane oil finish that is "Hand Rubbed" to give them the best finish possible. This custom made “One of a kind” “Tea Chest” is made from Lacewood, (Cardwellia sublimes) also called Silky Oak, this Australian hardwood is noted for its striking lacelike figure, caused by distinctive rays throughout the quarter-sawn lumber. Lacewood works well, has good bending qualities, and is well suited for inlays, marquetry and accent areas of fine furniture. The top made from Wenge, (Millettia Laurentii) a heavy wood weighing approximately 5 lbs./bdft. It comes from West and Central Africa. Wenge is used for expensive flooring, electric bass guitar fingerboards, bass guitar laminated tops. The wood is dark brown to black in color with sapwood being yellow in color. It’s Hard to find and somewhat expensive. The glass has laser engraved into it a “Shell”.  The corners of the top have been splined with Cardinal wood, for appearance and added strength for the corners.
